How many calories should we eat daily?

 

Summer is already “knocking on the door” and on the agenda for those who want to acquire a perfect “body on the beach” are diets. It turns out, however, that many people are ignorant of one of the key aspects of any weight-loss regime – calories, the Daily Express writes.

The authors of the new research have found that among a significant number of individuals there is a confusion over what they need to consume every day according to healthy nutrition advice.

Thanks to “clean diet” and a hefty fashion diet, it’s understandable why many people do not know which recommendations to believe, the authors of the research from Benenden noted.

The survey covered 2,000 Britons and shows that 44 percent of people are not aware of how many calories they should use daily.

Surprising participants aged between 18 and 24 proved to be more aware of healthy nutrition issues – two out of three knew what their daily intake of calories should be. For comparison, over 50 per cent of respondents over the age of 45 had no idea how many calories they should receive each day.

According to the British National Health Service, men should receive 2,500 calories per day to keep their weight, and women – 2,000 calories. In products the difference is equivalent to two eggs and two bananas.

It is no surprise that ladies are more aware of the calorie issue – 67 percent of them vs. 45 percent of men know what their daily admission should be.

The survey also reveals that the impressive 83 percent of people do not know how much the recommended daily amount of sugar is, and 77 percent have no idea how much salt should consume each day.

The poll also made clear that 45 percent of participants did not distinguish between natural and refined sugar, and 55 percent did not know that sweet potatoes are a rich source of carbohydrates.
